As we continue to expand our network, we are seeking a skilled and dedicated OSP Field Engineer to join our dynamic team.
Position Summary
The OSP Field Engineer provides supportive engineering services through detailed collection of telecommunications information from the job site. This position requires a working level of knowledge in all technical aspects of fiber networks. The successful candidate is responsible for in-person validation of the existing field design and layout of the OSP telecommunications network to include aerial, buried, and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Ensure all field work complies with permit requirements by understanding the City, County and State requirements as well as any long lead permit requirements that may apply. ie...railroad, NFS, Environmental, or Wetlands.
- Deliver detailed field notes & photographs (where needed) to the engineering team.
- Identify and validate constructability as aerial or underground environment to include any of the follow that may apply:
- All required facilities, including side of road, cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, handholes, & other Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure.
- Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights (if aerial design), utility structures, & tie down distances from existing/proposed Outside Plant (OSP) facilities to centerlines, property lines, & edge of pavement and back of curb lines.
- If aerial design, identify power and communication facilities on utility poles and record bonding, grounding, guying, & anchor information.
- Identify any obstructions to fiber placement & provide an alternate path to engineering.
- Provide schedule and project database updates, regularly reporting to the project manager to keep them constantly informed of job progress, plans, and any issues that could significantly affect costs or schedules.
- Manage compliance with quality control and quality assurance standards and specifications.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Perform equipment, material, and routine site inspections.
- Demonstrate and support a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Attend regular meetings with vendors, managers, and staff.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in field engineering, preferably in the telecommunications industry with a focus on fiber optics.
- Proficient in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks, including knowledge of splicing, testing, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Relevant certifications such as FOA CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Ability to work in various environments, including outdoor and confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to travel to different sites as required.
- Experience fielding & engineering road moves is highly desired.
- Knowledge of aerial, buried, and underground fiber facilities.
- Understanding of OSP construction techniques.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors 95% of the time.
- Ability to follow OSHA/State/Local Safety Standards (already stated above)
- Ability to walk up to 3 miles per day on terrain such as gravel, pavement, grass, etc
Compensation: $32.00 - $36.00 /hr
